How do I add fields to my operation in Granular Insights?

Requirements
- An active Granular Insights account
- Access to a smartphone or computer
- An active internet connection
You can add field boundaries to your operation in several ways:
- Importing shapefile field boundaries
- Automatically creating field boundaries based on machine data
- Selecting predefined boundaries in Granular Insights
- Manually drawing field boundaries
In this article, we will outline the steps to add fields to your operation by selecting predefined boundaries or manually drawing boundaries. To learn more about importing shapefile boundaries or automatically creating boundaries from machine data, click the links above.
To select predefined boundaries in Granular Insights:
Process - Web
- Log in to Granular Insights for Canada at https://ca.insights.granular.ag.
- In the Field List on the left navigation menu, click Add Field.
- On the map, locate the field you would like to add. You can do this by:
- Navigating to the field location, scrolling to zoom in and out, and clicking and holding your left mouse button to drag the map until you find your field
- Using the search bar to look up the field by city name, postal code or geographic coordinates
- Once you have located your field, the auto-detected boundaries will populate with a blue outline around the field. If you do not see the auto-detected boundaries, you may need to zoom in further on the map. Click on the desired field to select it.
- Enter the field name and assign a farm for the field (optional). Click Save Field.
- Your field is now saved to your operation and will appear in the Field List. Navigate to Activities to assign a crop type for the field.
Process - Mobile
- Open the Granular Insights mobile app.
- From the Field List, click the icon and select Field from the action menu.
- On the map, locate the field you would like to add. You can do this by navigating to the field location using both fingers to zoom in and out or using the search bar to look up the field by city name, postal code or geographic coordinates.
- Once you have located your field, the auto-detected boundaries will populate with a blue outline around the field. If you do not see the auto-detected boundaries, you may need to zoom in further on the map. To select the field, tap your desired field and click Next.
- Enter the field name and assign a farm for the field (optional). Click Save Field.
- Your field is now saved to your operation and will appear in your Field List.
- To assign a crop type for the field, navigate to the field. Under Field Health Summary, assign a crop type for the field. Click Save.
You can also manually draw your field boundary in Granular Insights on the web.

- In the Field List on the left navigation menu, click Add Field.
- On the map, locate the field you would like to add. You can do this by navigating to the field location, scrolling to zoom in and out, and clicking and holding your left mouse button to drag the map until you find your field or using the search bar to look up the field by city name, postal code or geographic coordinates.
- Once you have located your field, manually add field boundaries by using the shape icons in the upper left corner of the map to draw the field boundary.
- With the crosshairs pointer + active, click once in each corner of the field to draw the boundary. When finished, click the first field corner one more time to close the shape.
- Enter the field name and assign a farm for the field (optional). Click Save Field.
- Your field is now saved to your operation and will appear in your Field List. Navigate to Activities to assign a crop type for the field.
