How do I add fields to my operation in Granular Insights?
Overview
Track field conditions and make informed management decisions by adding fields to your operation to view your historical and in-season satellite imagery.
Requirements
- An active Granular Insights account
- Access to a smartphone or computer
- An active internet connection
Process - Web
- Log in to Granular Insights for Canada at https://ca.insights.granular.ag.
- In the Field List on the left navigation menu, click Add Field.
- On the satellite map, locate the field you would like to add. You can do this by:
- Navigating to the field location, scrolling to zoom in and out, and clicking and holding your left mouse button to drag the map until you find your field
- Using the search bar to look up the field by city name, postal code or geographic coordinates
- Once you have located your field, the auto-detected boundaries will populate with a blue outline around the field. If you do not see the auto-detected boundaries, you may need to zoom in further on the map. Click on the desired field to select it.
- Use Planet base maps to view a more current picture of the terrain, allowing you to draw more accurate field boundaries.
- To enable Planet base maps, click the
icon located near the bottom right corner of your screen. You can click the
icon again to toggle off the Planet base map and return to the default base map.
- Enter the field name, assign a farm for the field (optional) and assign a crop type for the field. Click Save Field.
- Your field is now saved to your operation and will appear in the Field List.
Using Granular Insights on the web, you are also able to add a field by manually drawing your field boundaries:
- In the Field List on the left navigation menu, click Add Field.
- On the satellite map, locate the field you would like to add. You can do this by:
- Navigating to the field location, scrolling to zoom in and out, and clicking and holding your left mouse button to drag the map until you find your field
- Using the search bar to look up the field by city name, postal code or geographic coordinates
- Once you have located your field, manually add field boundaries by using the shape icons
in the upper left corner of the map to draw the field boundary.
- With the crosshairs pointer + active, click once in each corner of the field to draw the boundary. When finished, click the first field corner one more time to close the shape.
- Use Planet base maps to view a more current picture of the terrain, allowing you to draw more accurate field boundaries.
- To enable Planet base maps, click the
icon located near the bottom right corner of your screen. You can click the
icon again to toggle off the Planet base map and return to the default base map.
- Enter the field name, assign a farm for the field (optional) and assign a crop for the field. Click Save Field.
- Your field is now saved to your operation and will appear in your Field List.
Process - Mobile
- Open the Granular Insights mobile app.
- From the Field List, click the Add
symbol.
- On the satellite map, locate the field you would like to add. You can do this by:
- Navigating to the field location using both fingers to zoom in and out or double tapping your finger on the screen
- Using the search bar to look up the field by city name, postal code or geographic coordinates
- Use Planet base maps to view a more current picture of the terrain. To enable Planet base maps, click the
icon located near the bottom right corner of your screen. You can click the
icon again to toggle off the Planet base map and return to the default base map
- Once you have located your field, the auto-detected boundaries will populate with a blue outline around the field. If you do not see the auto-detected boundaries, you may need to zoom in further on the map. To select the field, tap your desired field and click Next.
- Enter the field name, assign a farm for the field (optional) and assign a crop type for the field. Click Save Field.
- Your field is now saved to your operation and will appear in your Field List.
When adding fields to your operation, there are a few additional features that are only available when using Granular Insights on the web:
- You cannot create a new farm name on the mobile application. The option to create a new farm name is only available on the web
- Field boundaries cannot be manually drawn on the mobile application. The website allows you to add field boundaries by manually drawing the outline of the field you would like to add, and by importing shapefiles
- Once created, field boundaries cannot be changed using the mobile application
