Understanding Planting Plan Values

When a variety is initially entered for a planting plan, the acres are populated based on the field boundary. When you add more than one variety to a field, the number of acres will be divided equally between the varieties on the field. You can manually adjust the acres assigned to each variety as needed.

 

Notes:

• When adding multiple varieties to a field, you must add all the varieties before adjusting the acres for the adjusted acres to remain.
• Total acres for a field cannot exceed the field boundary acres

 

A seeding rate is required before a variety can be saved to the planting plan. The total # of bags is then calculated using the seeding rate and acres entered, as well as the default seeds per bag, as outlined below:

Total =

Seeding Rate / Seeds per Bag X Acres

or

Seeding Rate / Lbs per Bag X Acres

e.g. Corn: 37,500 / 80,000 X 155.77 = 73.1

e.g. Soybeans: 126,900 / 140,000 X 155.77 = 141.19

e.g. Canola: 6 / 50 X 155.87 = 18.7

 

Notes:

• The total # of bags will be rounded up to the nearest full bag
• Insights uses default Seeds per Bag for total calculation for all products
  • Corn – 80,000 seeds per bag
  • Soybeans – 140,000 seeds per bag
  • Canola, Alfalfa, Wheat - 50 lbs per bag
  • Sunflowers - 200,000 seeds per bag
  • Sorghum - 600,000 seeds per bag
  • Cotton - 230,000 seeds per bag

 

If you change the seeding rate or acres, the total # of bags will be adjusted accordingly. If you adjust the total # of bags calculated, the seeding rate will be recalculated based the acres and new total # of bags. If you want to maintain your original seeding rate, you will need to go in and readjust it.  The total # of bags will not revert to the originally calculated amount.

 

The simplest way to modify the number of bags for a specific field is to input the actual number of bags desired in the Entered Bags field. This allows you to manually choose the number of bags, without adjusting the acres or seeding rate for the field plan.

Notes:

• When you enter a value in the Entered Bags field, the values for Acres, Seeding Rate and Total # of bags are locked in
• Before entering the quantity in Entered Bags, ensure the Seeding Rate and Acres are entered
• Entered Bags will be indicated on the report with an asterisk (*)
