In-Season Monitoring Factor Cards

Monitor fields by easily viewing and analyzing precipitation, Growing Degree Unit (GDU) and solar radiation weather data. You can view the data either as an insights card or in a graph form for a better visual of the crop progression throughout the season.

Growing Degree Unit (GDU)

The GDU factor card summarizes historical accumulated GDUs for past five seasons as well as informs the GDUs required to reach certain growth stages (corn only).

The elements that you see on the GDU factor card are:

  • Planting Date: earliest planting date recorded for the field
  • Season: current year and year selected to compare to (can select one of the 5 previous years)
  • Total GDUs since Planting Date
    • For fields planted after May 1st, GDUs are reduced by the number of days after May 1st multiplied by 3
  • Average of last 5 seasons: compares the average GDUs of the current year to the previous year selected
  • Variety
  • V4, V7, Silking, Black Layer: indicates how many GDUs were required to reach each plant growth stage as well as the predicted dates that the field is expected to reach the growth stage

    Note:
    • These may differ from what is shown in the seed product guide as we account for both product maturity and planting date.

Precipitation

The precipitation factor card illustrates rain accumulation during the season, for corn and soybeans), which can be helpful to assess moisture conditions in the field.

It contains the following elements:

  • Planting Date: earliest planting date recorded for the field
  • Season: current year and year selected to compare to (can select one of the previous 5 years)
  • Accumulated Rainfall since Planting Date
  • Average of last 5 seasons: average precipitation amount of the past 5 years

Solar Radiation

The solar radiation card presents solar radiation accumulation since planting date. The solar radiation graph allows you to compare the solar radiation to GDUs or precipitation.

It contains the following elements:

  • Planting Date: earliest planting date recorded for the field
  • Season: current year and year selected to compare to (can select one of the previous 5 years)
  • Since the Planting Date: cumulative solar radiation since planting
  • Average of last 5 seasons: average solar radiation amount of the past 5 years

Weather data for precipitation and GDUs comes from the Corteva weather pillar, which pulls weather data from numerous sources nationally. Results will vary depending on the quantity and quality of weather sources available near a given field.
