Import/Export Field Layers

Import non-machine data layers to view on the map for an even more comprehensive field and product analysis.

Process – Web

  1. Log in to Granular Insights for Canada at https://ca.app.granular.ag.
  2. Click the Map on the left navigation menu.
  3. Select the operation that you want to import the field layer for.
  4. Click the layer icon beside the field where you want to add a layer.

    Note:
    • You can also click Add above the map on the right, click Import Field Layers and continue with step 7.

  5. Click Add Layer in the field layers window and select Import Layer.

  6. Drag and drop your files on the Select a file to import box or click Select File and manually search the file(s) to upload from your computer.

    Note:
    • We support the import of Generic, Irrigation, MYYA Class, Decision Zones, Trials and Soil Test layers

  7. Once the layer files have been selected, click Load File to upload and process the layer. If incorrect file(s) are showing, click Select new file to remove them and select the correct one(s).

  8. Enter a name for the imported layer(s).

    Notes:
    • If a single layer is being imported, a preview of the layer will be displayed under the Import Layer window.
    • To name all the imported layers the same, click Rename All Selected Layers

  9. Select the layer type and define the attributes (if there are known attributes that are required).

    Layer Types

    • Generic – used for additional layers with assigned attributes (i.e. fertility recommendation layer, older VRS recommendation layer, etc)
    • Irrigation – represents the irrigated area of a field; analysis can use this layer to inform the irrigated vs dryland yields of fields
    • Trial – defines one or more attributes to be tested on a field or to plan and execute a trial
    • Soil Test – will be available to be transferred to FieldAlytics
    • Decision Zones – editable layers used in VRS

Notes:

  • If there are any errors with the layer (e.g. missing attributes), Error Messages will appear at the bottom of the Import Layer window. Click on it to view more information about the errors.

  • For simplicity and saving time, you can save a layer template for irrigation, trial, soil test and relative productivity layers.
    1. Once you have entered the attribute details, click Save Template.

    2. Name the template.
    3. Click Save.

  • Template is saved for the user.
  • Once a template has been saved, you have the option of using the template whenever you are importing layers. Click Apply Template, select the template you want to use and click Apply. The attribute preferences will populate for the layer you are importing.

11. Click Upload Layers. You will now see the new layer under the Layers list.

Note:

  • You can also export a Field Layer:
    1. From Field Layers, select the field you want to export layers from.
    2. Click on the layer that you want to export to display the edit menu and click on it.
    3. Click Export Layer.
    4. Select the format (Shapefile or GeoJSON) to export the layers in and click Export.
    5. The layer will be exported to your device.
